Privacy Policy

Effective date: May 10, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Nosh Scout ("Nosh Scout," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you use our website, services, and applications (the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide: account details (email, password, display name, avatar), aliases, reviews, ratings, comments, restaurant pins and edits, photos, favorites, and any other content you submit.

Information collected automatically: device and browser data, IP address, approximate location derived from IP, pages viewed, referring URLs, timestamps, and similar log data.

Location data: if you grant permission, we may use precise device location to show nearby restaurants. You can revoke this permission at any time in your browser or device settings.

Cookies and local storage: we use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as theme and default alias), and measure usage.

Third-party sign-in: if you sign in with Google, we receive basic profile information (such as your name, email, and avatar) as authorized by you.

2. How We Use Information

  • Operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
  • Create and secure your account and authenticate sign-ins.
  • Display your reviews, aliases, and contributions to other users.
  • Personalize content, recommendations, and map views.
  • Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, abuse, and security issues.
  • Communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. Public Content

Reviews, ratings, restaurant pins, photos, and the alias displayed with them are public by default and may be viewed by anyone, indexed by search engines, and shared across the Service. Do not include information you do not want to be public. If you mark a review as anonymous, your alias and profile will not be displayed alongside it, but the content remains public.

4. How We Share Information

We share information only as described below:

  • With other users: your public profile, aliases, and contributions.
  • Service providers: hosting, database, authentication, mapping, image storage, analytics, and similar vendors who process data on our behalf.
  • Legal and safety: when required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, or property.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to confidentiality.

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Third-Party Services

The Service uses third-party providers including, for example, mapping and place-data services and authentication providers. Their use of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

6. Data Retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. Reviews and other public contributions may remain visible after account deletion in anonymized form. We retain certain data longer where required by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Choices and Rights

  • Access and update: review and edit your profile, aliases, and reviews in Settings.
  • Delete content: remove individual reviews from Settings.
  • Delete your account: contact us to request account deletion.
  • Cookies: control cookies through your browser settings; disabling them may affect functionality.
  • Location: revoke location permissions in your browser or device.

Depending on your jurisdiction (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights, including the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal information, or to object to certain processing. Contact us to exercise these rights.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us so we can remove it.

10. International Users

Your information may be stored and processed in countries other than your own. By using the Service, you consent to such transfers, subject to appropriate safeguards required by law.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice (for example, by updating the effective date or posting a notice in the Service).
